FryDesign offers you memorable design and peace of mind, with over 18 years of experience in creating icons for software visual interfaces, web sites and marketing applications.
Whether your interface design is already in place or you’re creating a new one, you need icons that perform on a variety of levels. Your icons need to match the branded look and feel of your visual interface and they must function mneumonically in two ways:
- For common function icons, they need to follow clear metaphors that are already considered intuitive
- For custom function-specific icons, the user must be able to quickly and easily identify the relationship between the function and the icon, in a way that is memorable.
Here’s the bottom line: Every time a user goes to an icon, they either remember it or they have to think about it. If they have to think about it, the design has failed. If they remember it, the design is successful.
Icons are small designs that require critical attention. At FryDesign, we believe that successful icons come from a close collaborative relationship with the client – exploring concepts and ideas, then responding and refining based on thoughtful feedback – until the right icons are delivered.

FryDesign was awarded the contract to rebrand, redesign plus create original icon design for the entire icon library of PTC's Windchill product.
Because FryDesign originally designed many of the icons in use, our history with PTC has been important because of our understanding of the many concepts already in place.
The design work ranged from rebranding to new design. Some of this new design includes illustration like the placeholder image for Creo View. Other design included adapting icons for use in mobile applications. Overall, it has been an enormous and challenging job with over 1100 icons created, rebranded and or redesigned.
In order to manage the scope of this project, a cms (content management system) website was designed and created by FryDesign to administer the icons as they were created. This site allowed PTC secure access to the icons. The extensive search, sorting, tagging and grouping capabilities of the site provided users of with effective tools for manipulating views of currently posted icon designs. In addition, a commenting system was added so that discussions about any icon could viewed and recorded.
The icon review website has been well worth the effort. Because of its success, future plans include moving the site and its database to PTC's local servers for permanent management of this new icon library.
ICONS are copyrighted works of PTC and are used with permission. These Icons may not be copied, reproduced or distributed without PTC’s prior written consent. Creo View is a registered trademark of PTC, the Parametric Technology Corporation.

Created for OpenMake Mojo and OpenMake Meister, these successful icons represent samplings from various visual interfaces, software applications and web pages. OpenMake Meister a tool for dynamically defining and executing software builds and OpenMake Mojo is a tool for automating, centralizing and accelerating software development processes from build to release.
FryDesign collaborated with engineering to create these icons, which were designed to augment titling for the workflow and features section of OpenMake’s web site. Working with an established look and feel, these custom icons match the brand color palette. To enhance memorability, existing metaphors were used wherever possible. The emulation of three-dimensional objects added character and visual appeal.
The icons across the top are examples of the web site interface. The second row features icons from the software products. The smaller icons are object icons.
